University of Sunderland’s Douglas Clasper Elite Sports Scholarship Supports Aspiring Football Coach

The University of Sunderland has made a groundbreaking move by awarding its first ever elite sports scholarship to aspiring football coach Aaron Steavens. The Douglas Clasper Elite Sports Scholarship aims to support talented student athletes like Aaron in fulfilling their potential while pursuing their studies at the university.

At just 22 years old, Aaron is already making waves in the football world. Currently in his first year of a BSc Sports Science degree at the University of Sunderland, Aaron has been granted a scholarship that includes financial support, discounts on tuition fees and accommodation, as well as specialist support such as mentoring, sport massage, physiotherapy, gym access, strength and conditioning training, nutritional advice, and lifestyle management.

Hailing from East Boldon, Aaron is a skilled goalkeeper who has been playing semi-professional football since the age of 16. With a strong social media presence and a passion for coaching, Aaron has amassed over 500,000 followers across various platforms. His ultimate goal is to become a coach for a top-tier team like Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, and the Douglas Clasper Elite Sports Scholarship brings him one step closer to realizing that dream.

Mike Clasper CBE, Chairman of SSP Group PLC and BIOSS, established the scholarship in memory of his father, Douglas. He expressed his delight in Aaron being the first recipient of the scholarship, highlighting his father’s love for football and admiration for entrepreneurial spirit. The scholarship not only benefits Aaron but also contributes to the wider Sports Opportunity Fund at the University of Sunderland.

This prestigious scholarship not only recognizes Aaron’s talent and dedication but also provides him with the resources and support needed to excel in both his academic and athletic pursuits. As Aaron embarks on this exciting journey, the University of Sunderland continues to offer opportunities for students to achieve their professional aspirations and enhance their educational experience.
