Celebrating National Hockey Card Day in Canada at Player’s Choice Sports Cards and Collectibles
Hockey fans in Kelowna had a reason to celebrate on Saturday as Player’s Choice Sports Cards and Collectibles marked National Hockey Card Day in Canada with a special event for their customers.
Owner Jason Wobshall, who has been in the business for 15 years, was thrilled to see the excitement from the fans as they lined up outside the store to get their hands on free packs of hockey cards. The store also organized a scavenger hunt with prizes including a Connor Bedard autographed draft jersey and hobby boxes, adding to the excitement of the day.
With the surge in interest in sports cards during the COVID-19 pandemic, Wobshall noted that the store saw a record number of customers on Saturday, with over 1,200 people passing through the doors. He attributed this to people rediscovering their collections while staying at home during lockdowns.
Despite the recent slowdown in sales as people return to work and travel, Wobshall remains optimistic about the future of the sports card industry. He highlighted the growing interest in different sets, autographs, and rookie cards, with some cards selling for over $10,000.
As Player’s Choice prepares to celebrate 20 years in business in Kelowna, Wobshall is looking forward to hosting an Upper Deck party to thank their loyal customers. He emphasized the joy of connecting with fans, especially children, on Hockey Card Day and the excitement of seeing their reactions as they open packs of cards.
Overall, National Hockey Card Day was a success for Player’s Choice Sports Cards and Collectibles, bringing together hockey fans of all ages to celebrate their love for the sport and the hobby of collecting cards.
