Denver Pioneers Win 10th National Championship in Program History

In a thrilling matchup on Saturday night, the Denver Pioneers emerged victorious over the No. 1 overall seed Boston College Eagles to claim their 10th national championship in program history. Jared Wright and Rieger Lorenz were the heroes of the night, scoring second-period goals to secure the 2-0 victory.

The Pioneers, who entered the game as the No. 3 seed with a record of 32-9-3, finished the season on a nine-game win streak, surpassing Michigan for the most titles all-time. Goalie Matt Davis was a standout performer, making 35 saves in his third shutout of the season. Davis, who made his 26th consecutive start, stopped 68 of the 69 shots he faced at the Frozen Four.

Wright and Lorenz’s goals came in the second period, with Wright finding the back of the net first after a quick push up the left side. Lorenz then extended the lead with a wrist shot that beat Boston College goaltender Jacob Fowler. The Pioneers’ dominance in the second period was evident throughout the season, outscoring their opponents 82-39 in that frame.

Boston College, with a record of 34-6-1, saw their 15-game win streak come to an end as they were shut out for the first time since March 11, 2023. Despite setting a program record for wins in a season, the Eagles were unable to overcome the Pioneers’ strong performance.

Denver’s victory solidifies their status as a powerhouse in college hockey, with three consecutive seasons of at least 30 wins. The Pioneers’ impressive display on the ice cements their legacy as one of the top programs in the country.
