Indian Squad Changes for Final Olympic Qualifying Event in Bangkok: Amit Panghal Returns, Wholesale Changes Made
Indian boxing squad undergoes major changes ahead of final Olympic qualifying event in Bangkok
New Delhi: In a bid to turn around their fortunes after a disappointing performance at the Olympic qualifiers in Italy last month, the Indian boxing squad has undergone significant changes for the final Olympic qualifying event set to take place in Bangkok from May 25 to June 2.
After failing to secure a single quota spot in Italy, five boxers have lost their spots in the team for the upcoming World Qualification Tournament. This poor showing also led to the resignation of India’s High-Performance Director Bernard Dunne.
Among the notable changes, World Championships silver medallist Amit Panghal has returned to the squad, giving him a final chance to secure his spot in the Tokyo Olympics. Panghal, who has been in impressive form recently, will be looking to make the most of this opportunity.
Additionally, other boxers who have been included in the squad include Sachin Siwach, Abhinash Jamwal, Abhimanyu Loura, Nishant Dev, Sanjeet, and Narender Berwal. These changes aim to bring a fresh perspective and hopefully lead to better results in the upcoming event.
In the women’s category, Ankushita Boro has moved to the 60kg weight class, while Arundhati Choudhary has emerged as a top performer in the 66kg category.
With four Olympic quota places already secured by Indian boxers, the team will be looking to add more to their tally in Bangkok. The squad is determined to put up a strong showing and make the country proud on the international stage.
The boxing fraternity and fans will be eagerly watching as the Indian boxers gear up for their final chance to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.
