“John Jay Athletics Celebrates Girls in Sports Day for Grades 1-6”
The Katonah-Lewisboro School District is gearing up for an exciting event that celebrates girls in sports and introduces them to the world of athletics at John Jay High School. Girls in grades one through six will have the opportunity to learn from and interact with the role models of John Jay Athletics on Girls in Sports Day.
Scheduled for May 19 from 1 – 5 p.m. at John Jay High School’s Contest Field, Girls in Sports Day promises to be a fun and engaging experience for all participants. The event is free, but preregistration is required, with the added bonus of receiving a free t-shirt if registered by May 1.
Organized by Debbie Walsh, John Jay’s field hockey coach, Girls in Sports Day aims to showcase the various women’s sports offered at John Jay and foster a sense of community among female athletes. The event is part of a national movement led by the Women’s Sports Foundation, highlighting the achievements and contributions of girls and women in sports.
With the help of over a dozen Wolves athletes and John Jay’s varsity coaches, girls will have the opportunity to participate in activities related to field hockey, lacrosse, volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball, tennis, and even flag football. The day will also include snacks provided by the John Jay Boosters.
For Walsh, Girls in Sports Day is more than just a one-time event – it’s about planting seeds and nurturing young girls’ interest in athletics. She believes that playing sports is a crucial part of the high school experience and hopes to make it a memorable time for all students involved.
With the support of the community and the dedication of the athletes and coaches, Girls in Sports Day at John Jay High School is sure to be a day filled with empowerment, friendship, and fun for all participants.
