Ann Renée Guillemette: A Pioneer in North Bay Women’s Hockey
North Bay hockey player Ann Renée Guillemette is set to be inducted into the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame for her outstanding contributions to women’s hockey. Guillemette, a pioneer in the sport in North Bay, started playing women’s hockey when it was still in its early stages.
Her journey in hockey began with success in Ringette before transitioning to the North Bay and District Girls Hockey Association, where she led her team to numerous victories. Her skills and dedication caught the attention of scouts, leading to a four-year scholarship offer from Yale University.
During her time at Yale, Guillemette made a significant impact on the team, helping them achieve a 16-win season and beating Harvard for the first time in twenty years. She was named team captain in her senior year and received accolades for her leadership and defensive skills.
After graduating from Yale, Guillemette continued her academic pursuits, completing a Master of Science program at Guelph. Her contributions to women’s hockey have been recognized, and she will be honored at the 43rd Annual Induction and Awards Dinner at the Davedi Club.
Guillemette’s story is one of perseverance, dedication, and leadership, showcasing the impact that one individual can have on a sport.
