High School Sports Roundup: Northside Baseball Dominates, Auburn Softball Shuts Out Galax, and More
The Northside baseball team put on a dominant performance as they cruised to a 27-3 victory over William Fleming in Blue Ridge District action on Friday night. Camden Spangler led the charge for the Vikings, collecting five runs and going 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Connor Cooper also had a standout game, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Brett Taylor contributed with four runs and two RBIs.
In another exciting baseball matchup, Auburn secured a 7-0 win over Galax in Mountain Empire District play. Josh Givens was the star of the game, striking out 14 batters and throwing a complete game shutout for the Eagles. Brody Hensel added a solo home run and two RBIs, while Jared Lavergne and Zac McGlothlin also made key contributions to the victory.
On the softball diamond, Northside dominated William Fleming with a 15-1 win in Blue Ridge District action. Abbie Caldwell led the charge for the Vikings, hitting a home run and collecting four RBIs. Zoey Mason also had a strong game, going 3-for-4 at the plate. Madison Loan and Chloe Gee combined for seven strikeouts and only allowed two hits in the circle.
In other softball action, Glenvar secured a 3-2 victory over Floyd County thanks to a walk-off single from Hannah Street in the bottom of the seventh inning. Abby Tuebert put in a solid performance on the mound for the Highlanders, striking out four batters and surrendering four hits.
