Corey Norman shines in bush footy debut for Thirlmere Roosters

Former Queensland Origin playmaker Corey Norman has made a sensational start to his bush footy career with Thirlmere in the Macarthur Rugby League, showcasing his talent and experience on the field.

Joining a Thirlmere Roosters squad filled with former NRL stars, Norman, who last played for the Dragons in 2021, made his bush footy debut in a hostile environment at Picton alongside the likes of Curtis Scott, Tim Simona, and Ken Sio.

Despite a slow start to the season with three consecutive losses, Picton fans packed Victoria Park to witness the showdown. The atmosphere was electric as Alec Susino scored the opening try for the home team, sending the crowd into a frenzy.

However, Thirlmere quickly responded with Harrison Coskerie finding the try line, and the team’s experienced players like Scott and Sio began to dominate the game. The Magpies supporters grew restless as Thirlmere extended their lead, with Simona’s controversial try causing further frustration.

As the game progressed, Thirlmere’s skipper Kye Madden increased the lead, but Picton refused to back down. Despite a valiant effort from the home team, Thirlmere’s 11-man squad managed to maintain control and secure a convincing 46-18 victory.

Norman, who had been out of action for six months before returning to the field, displayed his class by kicking three goals and providing crucial plays for his team.

Reflecting on his bush footy debut, Norman acknowledged the physicality of the game and the intense rivalry between the two teams. Despite facing taunts from the opposing fans, Norman remained focused and delivered a standout performance.

With more games to come in the Macarthur Rugby League season, fans can expect to see more exciting performances from Corey Norman and the Thirlmere Roosters as they aim for success in the competition. Stay tuned for more updates after Sunday’s games.
