Yorkshire’s Shan Masood shines on day one against Gloucestershire in County Championship

In a thrilling start to the Vitality County Championship Division One match between Yorkshire and Gloucestershire at the Seat Unique Stadium in Bristol, captain Shan Masood’s brilliant century rescued Yorkshire from a precarious position on day one.

After losing key batsmen Joe Root and Harry Brook early on, Yorkshire found themselves struggling at 90-5. However, Masood showcased his class and composure as he notched up his 26th first-class century, scoring a magnificent 140 runs off 140 balls, including 15 boundaries.

Supported by Jonny Tattersall’s quickfire 58 and Matt Milnes’ gritty 51, Yorkshire managed to post a competitive total of 326 despite losing the toss. Zaman Akhter was the pick of the bowlers for Gloucestershire, claiming a career-best 5-89.

In reply, Gloucestershire got off to a shaky start, losing two early wickets with the score at 28-2. Yorkshire’s bowlers, led by Matthew Fisher and Ben Coad, put pressure on the opposition batsmen, with Fisher dismissing Chris Dent and Coad removing Ollie Price.

Overall, it was a day of ups and downs for both teams, with Yorkshire finishing on top at the end of the day’s play. The match promises to be an exciting contest as both teams look to gain the upper hand in the Championship clash.
