Armagh captain Aidan Forker confident ahead of 2024 Ulster Championship quarter-finals
Armagh Captain Aidan Forker Ready to Put Heartbreak Behind Him in Ulster Championship Opener
Armagh captain Aidan Forker is determined to put the heartbreak of last year’s championship penalty shootout defeats behind him as he leads his team into the 2024 Ulster Championship quarter-finals against Fermanagh.
Despite losing in the Ulster Final to Derry and suffering a similar fate in the All-Ireland quarter-final against Monaghan, Forker remains confident that his team is not carrying any psychological damage into this season’s campaign.
“We know we’re close,” Forker said, looking ahead to the match against Fermanagh. “Every year takes on a life of its own. There are no guarantees that we are going to get there again, but we would definitely like to think that we would be a little bit more steely, thinking a little bit more clearly in those moments when we are trying to get over the line.”
Forker, who made his inter-county debut 12 years ago, will be leading a squad that includes several players who featured in the 2018 contest against Fermanagh, where Armagh suffered a surprise defeat.
The Armagh captain is also excited about the addition of former Derry forward Conleith Gilligan to the coaching staff, which has brought a new dimension to the team’s attacking play.
With the Ulster Championship quarter-final just around the corner, Forker and his teammates are focused on putting in a strong performance and getting their campaign off to a positive start. The match against Fermanagh promises to be a tough test, but Forker is confident that Armagh is ready to rise to the challenge.
As the team prepares to take the field at Brewster Park on Sunday, all eyes will be on Forker and his leadership as they aim to secure a victory and move one step closer to their goal of winning the Ulster title for the first time since 2008.
