Massive Changes in Indian Boxing Team for Final Olympic Qualifiers: Amit Panghal Returns
After a disappointing performance at the Olympic qualifiers in Italy last month, Indian boxers are gearing up for their last chance to secure a spot at the upcoming Olympics. With not a single boxer able to secure a quota in Italy, changes have been made to the Indian team for the second World Qualification Tournament.
High Performance Director Bernard Dunne has stepped down from his post following the dismal showing in Italy. As a result, as many as five pugilists have lost their spots in the team, including World Championships silver medallist Amit Panghal.
Panghal, who missed out on the previous qualifying events for the Paris Olympics, will now have his final opportunity to secure his passage to the upcoming Games. The Strandja gold medallist will be looking to make his mark in the upcoming tournament in Bangkok.
Joining Panghal in the revamped Indian team are other talented boxers such as Sachin Siwach, Abhinash Jamwal, and Nishan Dev. These boxers will be looking to make a strong statement and secure their spots at the Olympics.
In the women’s category, Ankushita Boro has made a weight class change in hopes of improving her chances of securing a quota. With only four Olympic quota places secured so far by Indian boxers, the pressure is on for the team to perform well in the upcoming tournament.
With the Tokyo Olympics in the rearview mirror, Indian boxers are focused on making a strong comeback and securing their spots at the upcoming Games. The upcoming World Qualification Tournament in Bangkok will be a crucial opportunity for these talented athletes to showcase their skills and earn their place on the Olympic stage.
