Teams compete in first race using new America’s Cup public simulator in Barcelona

Teams from the America’s Cup recently took to the virtual waters in Barcelona for the first live race using the new America’s Cup public simulator. The event showcased the merging of the sailing and virtual worlds, marking a new era for America’s Cup yachting.

Six sailors representing each America’s Cup team, along with Spanish Olympic medallist Jordi Xammar and professional e-sports player Lukas Mohr, competed in the race to demonstrate the potential of the new game in revolutionizing e-sports in sailing. The star-studded roster included Olympic Gold medallists, World Champions, and up-and-coming talents from various teams.

Fans worldwide were able to watch the event through the official America’s Cup channel on Twitch, with support from streamers in the UK, France, Italy, and Spain. The launch of the America’s Cup on the platform provided a sneak peek of what’s to come in the upcoming America’s Cup E-series championship.

AC Sailing, the ultra-realistic sailing simulation game built on actual technology used by America’s Cup teams, offers a unique opportunity for players and sailing enthusiasts to experience the thrill of the America’s Cup in foiling monohulls in a new way. Emirates Team New Zealand’s Chief Technical Officer, Dan Bernasconi, expressed confidence in sailing becoming the next big e-sport with the launch of AC Sailing and the America’s Cup E-series.

The game’s development, supported by ACCIÓ, the Generalitat de Catalunya’s agency for business competitiveness, represents a significant milestone for the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup. AC Sailing is available for free download on PC platforms, allowing players to race in high-tech foiling AC40 yachts in online races, time trials, and practice modes.
