Indian Men’s Hockey Team Suffers Fourth Consecutive Defeat Against Australia in Pro League
The Indian men’s hockey team’s Pro League campaign has hit a rough patch as they suffered their fourth consecutive defeat at the hands of Australia in Perth on Friday. Despite an improved performance compared to their previous matches, India went down 3-1 to the hosts, who now lead the five-match Test series 4-0.
Harmanpreet Singh was the lone goal-scorer for India, converting a penalty corner in the 12th minute. However, Australia’s Jeremy Hayward struck twice from penalty corners, with Jack Welch adding another goal late in the game.
Coach Craig Fulton, who made six changes to the team, had emphasized the need for better offensive play before the match. The Indian forwards showed intent and created chances throughout the game, but were unable to capitalize on them.
The backline, on the other hand, struggled to contain Australia’s penalty corner threat, conceding 10 PCs in total. India’s conversion rate from penalty corners was also poor, with only one goal coming from six opportunities.
Goalkeeper PR Sreejesh once again put in a stellar performance, keeping a clean sheet despite the loss. His form bodes well for India’s prospects at the upcoming Paris Olympics.
While the defeats have been disappointing, there are positives to take from India’s performances, with the team showing improvement in each match. Fans will be hoping for a strong fightback from Harmanpreet and his teammates in the final game of the series on Saturday.
