Salisbury High School Dominates in Baseball and Tennis on Thursday

The Salisbury Hornets had a successful day on Thursday, dominating in both baseball and tennis matchups. The baseball team secured a convincing 20-2 victory over Montgomery Central, marking their fourth win in just three days. Coach Carson Herndon is pleased with the team’s recent performance, acknowledging that the wins have come against less formidable opponents but still recognizing the progress they have made.

Pitcher Hank Webb and Landon Tucker showcased their skills on the mound, combining for a strong performance against Montgomery Central. The Hornets’ offense was firing on all cylinders, with Mike Geter leading the charge with a home run, a double, and four RBIs. Cole Price and Ben Young also contributed with three RBIs each, helping the team secure the win.

On the tennis court, Salisbury continued their winning streak with a 7-0 victory over a short-handed Lexington team. With Lexington only fielding five players, the Hornets were able to secure wins in both singles and doubles matches. A.J. Jarrell, Gray Davis, Bryant Davis, Reid Hlavacek, and Soyer Cornelison all notched victories in singles play, while the doubles teams of Jarrell/Gray Davis and Cornelison/Hlavacek also emerged victorious.

With these impressive wins, the Hornets are making a strong case for a playoff spot in both baseball and tennis. The baseball team has climbed to 36th in the 2A West RPI rankings, while the tennis team sits in second place behind North Stanly. As the season progresses, Salisbury will look to build on their recent success and continue their winning ways in both sports.
