Major Upgrades Announced for Shepparton BMX and Cycling Clubs
The Shepparton BMX Club and Shepparton Cycling Club precinct are set to receive major upgrades, thanks to funding announced by Victorian Community Sport Minister Ros Spence. The enhancements include a new multi-purpose pavilion, improvements to start hills at the BMX track, enhanced storage, broadcasting capabilities, drainage, maintenance management, and a facelift.
The cycling precinct velodrome will also undergo a lighting upgrade to support training and competition for Shepparton Cycling Club members, as well as major events that utilize the velodrome for warm-up and staging components. City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali expressed excitement about the projects, noting that they will help the clubs grow and build capacity in the region.
The upgrades aim to ensure the future sustainability of BMX and cycling in Greater Shepparton, with the hope of nurturing the next generation of sporting champions. Mayor Sali highlighted the city’s success in hosting local, state, national, and international events, emphasizing the economic benefits for the region.
Minister Spence praised the investment as a boost for bike riders in the region and a job creator. The funding is part of the state government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, showcasing a commitment to sport, recreation, and gender equality.
Olympic Gold medallist cyclist and Shepparton Cycling Club president Brett Lancaster welcomed the investment, particularly the lighting upgrade for the velodrome. The improvements are expected to elevate the facilities to attract major cycling events and showcase the region’s world-class amenities. The projects aim to create a 10-year pipeline of significant events in collaboration with AusCycling, further solidifying Greater Shepparton’s reputation as a premier sporting destination.
