Boys Tennis Season Begins with Defending State Champions Leading State Rankings

The boys tennis season in Minnesota is off to an exciting start as the defending state champions from last season are once again dominating the state rankings. Wayzata in Class 2A and St. Paul Academy in Class 1A have claimed the top spots in the rankings released by the Minnesota Tennis Coaches Association.

St. Paul Academy boasts the top two players in Class 1A’s individual rankings, with Zahir Hassan ranked first and Winston Arvidson in second place. David Schumacher also represents St. Paul Academy in the top 10, coming in at sixth place. On the other hand, Wayzata has two players in the top 10 of Class 2A: Aaron Beduhn at No. 3 and Rishi Ranjith at No. 10.

In Class 2A, Rochester Mayo’s Tej Bhagra holds the top spot in the individual rankings, followed closely by Mahtomedi’s Sam Rathmanner in second place. Rathmanner made waves last season by finishing third at state after defeating the top seed from Wayzata in the quarterfinals.

The state rankings released by the Minnesota Tennis Coaches Association also highlight the top teams in each class. In Class 2A, Wayzata leads the pack, followed by Rochester Mayo and Blake. In Class 1A, St. Paul Academy sits at the top, with Rochester Lourdes and Breck rounding out the top three.

With the season just beginning, all eyes will be on these top-ranked teams and players as they look to defend their titles and make a run for the state championship once again. Stay tuned for more exciting tennis action in Minnesota!
