Georgia Gymnastics Team Falls Short in NCAA Regionals, Lily Smith Shines as All-Around Champion

The Georgia gymnastics team’s season came to an end in Gainesville, Florida on Friday evening after a hard-fought battle in the NCAA regionals. Despite an impressive performance, the Bulldogs fell just short of advancing to the next round.

SEC Freshman of the Year, Lily Smith, stole the show by earning the all-around title with a score of 39.675. This marked her fifth all-around title of the year, showcasing her incredible talent and skill. Smith’s performance was a bright spot for the Bulldogs in an otherwise disappointing end to their season.

Georgia started strong on beam, notching their season-best score of 49.450. The team continued to perform well on floor and vault, posting scores of 49.300 in both events. Smith led the way with impressive performances on each apparatus, earning high scores and showcasing her versatility as a gymnast.

Head coach Courtney Kupets Carter expressed pride in her team’s performance, despite the outcome. She praised the young team for performing to the program’s standard and expressed optimism for the future of Georgia gymnastics.

Several Georgia gymnasts received special recognition for their performances throughout the season. In addition to Smith’s SEC Freshman of the Year award, she was also named a Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association Regular Season All-American. Turner and Scott also earned spots on the All-SEC Freshman and All-SEC teams, highlighting the team’s depth and talent.

Although the Bulldogs’ season may have ended sooner than they had hoped, they can hold their heads high knowing they gave it their all and left everything on the mat. With a bright future ahead, Georgia gymnastics will be a team to watch in the seasons to come.
