Great Britain’s Squad Announced for World Athletics Relays – Sprinter CJ Ujah Included After Doping Ban

Great Britain’s sprinter CJ Ujah has been named in the squad for the upcoming World Athletics Relays, marking his return to competition after serving a doping ban. Ujah was banned for 22 months after testing positive for prohibited substances at the Tokyo Olympics, but was cleared of intentionally doping.

The World Athletics Relays, set to take place in the Bahamas on 4-5 May, will also serve as the Olympic qualifying event for the relay competitions at Paris 2024. Ujah, whose ban ended on 5 June 2023, will join the men’s 4x100m relay squad alongside Zharnel Hughes, Richard Kilty, and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake.

Despite facing challenges in recent years, the relay squad is motivated and committed to working together towards success in Paris, according to Darren Campbell, head of sprints, hurdles, and relays for UK Athletics. Reece Prescod, another member of the Tokyo squad, has also been named in the team.

On the women’s side, Asha Philip and Imani-Lara Lansiquot, members of the bronze medal-winning quartet in Tokyo, have been included in the squad. However, Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita are notably absent.

Great Britain had a successful outing at the World Championships in Budapest last summer, winning mixed 4x400m silver and bronze medals in the women’s 4x100m and 4x400m, as well as the men’s 4x400m events.

The full squad for Great Britain includes a mix of experienced athletes and rising stars, all aiming to make their mark at the World Athletics Relays and secure their spots for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.
