Hong Kong selected as host for 8 events at 2025 National Games, featuring fencing and track cycling

Hong Kong to Co-Host National Games with Unprecedented Role

Hong Kong is gearing up to co-host the National Games next year, marking a significant milestone for the city as it prepares to showcase its sporting prowess on a national stage. Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu led a government delegation to Guangzhou for the inaugural meeting of the 15th National Games Organising Committee, where it was announced that Hong Kong will host eight events, including fencing and track cycling.

The Games, scheduled to take place from November 9 to 21 next year, will see Hong Kong hosting a range of sports, from rugby sevens to golf. The city will make use of existing venues and the upcoming Kai Tak Sports Park to ensure a successful and memorable event.

One of the highlights of the Games will be the triathlon, which will take place in Victoria Harbour and the Central harbourfront, offering a stunning backdrop of Hong Kong’s picturesque landscape. The event aims to showcase the city’s unique characteristics to the rest of the country.

The new Kai Tak Sports Park, with its state-of-the-art facilities, will play host to handball, rugby sevens, and fencing competitions. Other events will be spread across the city, with venues like the Hong Kong Coliseum and the Velodrome in Tseung Kwan O set to host basketball and track cycling, respectively.

Co-hosting the National Games and Paralympic Games will provide Hong Kong with an opportunity to demonstrate its capability in organizing large-scale sporting events. The city is also set to host events as part of the National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the National Special Olympic Games, further showcasing its commitment to inclusive sports participation.

With preparations well underway, Hong Kong is poised to deliver a memorable and successful National Games next year, solidifying its position as a key player in the region’s sporting landscape.
