Escanaba Baseball Opens Season with 12-3 Win Over Iron Mountain
The Escanaba High School baseball team kicked off their season in style with a 12-3 victory over Iron Mountain on Wednesday. Despite some early season jitters, the Eskymos showed their potential with a dominant performance at Al Ness Field.
The game was a back-and-forth affair until the bottom of the fifth inning when Escanaba broke the game wide open. Freshman Alex Ison started the rally with a reach on an error, and the Eskymos capitalized on multiple walks and hits to score seven runs in the inning.
Senior shortstop Ben Johnson was a standout performer, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and a walk. Brian Boutlier and Nolan Bink also had strong performances at the plate, each finishing 2-for-2 with key hits and runs scored.
On the mound, senior Eli Gardner earned the win with a solid relief performance, while Cannon Arnt and Lennox Peacock also contributed to the pitching effort.
Despite the loss, Iron Mountain showed promise with a late rally in the fifth inning. Aiden Ellis and Charlie Anderson were bright spots for the Miners, each contributing offensively and on the mound.
Looking ahead, Escanaba is gearing up for a busy weekend in Wisconsin Dells with three games in two days. The competition will be tough, but the Eskymos are confident in their abilities and excited for the challenge.
Overall, it was a strong start to the season for Escanaba, and they will look to build on this momentum as they continue their campaign. Stay tuned for more updates on their upcoming games and performances.
