Keswick Falcons Celebrate Promotion in Women’s Rugby League
The Keswick Falcons, a women’s rugby team based at Keswick Rugby Club, had plenty to celebrate on Sunday, April 7 as they secured promotion in their second season, clinching the NC2 NORTH NORTH league title for the 2023-2024 season.
With a perfect record of 12 wins out of 12 games, the Falcons showed their dominance on the field after only playing contact rugby for the past two years. The team’s success not only showcases their talent but also highlights the strong bond and camaraderie they have developed off the pitch, with players referring to themselves as a family.
Following their final match of the season, the Falcons were treated to champagne showers as they celebrated their well-deserved victory. The women’s team has not only been a force to be reckoned with on the field but has also become a vital asset to the rugby club, transforming it into a social hub for the local community.
Head of women and girls rugby at Keswick Rugby Club, Alan Weightman, expressed his pride in the team’s achievements, emphasizing the positive impact they have had on the club’s atmosphere and community engagement. With players ranging from 17 to 68 years old, the Falcons have created a diverse and inclusive environment that welcomes players of all ages.
The Falcons’ success has also paved the way for the development of an under 18’s team, who will train alongside the senior team before entering a league next season. The club encourages anyone interested in joining the Keswick Falcons to get involved and be part of their growing rugby family.
