Madibaz Men’s Rowing Team Ready for USSA Sprints Regatta in Western Cape

The Madibaz men’s rowing team is gearing up for a thrilling weekend of competition at the University Sports South Africa sprints regatta on the Misverstand Dam near Porterville in the Western Cape. With the event set to kick off on Friday, the Madibaz are ready to take on the top student rowing teams in the country in a series of 1,000m sprints.

Despite being a smaller team of 12, the Madibaz are eager to make their mark at the regatta. Rowing manager Melinda Goosen expressed confidence in her team’s abilities, noting that while they may face challenges due to their numbers, they are prepared to push themselves against the country’s elite rowers.

The competition will see the Madibaz compete in various categories, from men’s and women’s individual races to different divisions across all classes. This presents a valuable opportunity for the Gqeberha rowers, many of whom are relatively new to the sport, to gain exposure and experience against top competition.

With limited opportunities for regular competition in their home province, the Madibaz have been putting in the hard work to be race-ready. Training on ergo machines during the week and hitting the river on weekends, the team is focused on securing as many points as possible to make an impact in the overall standings.

As they prepare to face tough competition from the likes of Tuks, UCT, and UJ, the Madibaz have their sights set on earning a spot in the USSA national squad. With the regatta serving as a platform to showcase their talent and determination, the Madibaz are ready to give it their all and leave it all on the water this weekend.
