Reviving the Eagles: Shepparton’s Rugby League Club Making a Comeback
The Shepparton Eagles Rugby League Club is back in action after a 16-year hiatus, and they are making waves with their strong emphasis on culture and community. The club, which was restarted at the end of last year, has quickly become a hub for young men, women, and children looking to get involved in the sport.
According to Eagles committee member Deborah Fili, the club’s main goal is to build a family-oriented culture with good vibes while also focusing on developing their junior players. The club’s revival has been met with overwhelming support from the community, with a large number of players showing up to join the teams.
Despite their culture-first mentality, the Eagles are not shying away from competition. Fili expressed the club’s desire to win and go all the way in their first season back in the Goulburn Murray Storm Premiership. However, she emphasized that the main focus is on blending well as a team and having fun on the field.
The club’s next step is to launch their junior sides, with teams for children aged five to twelve set to start in May. Fili is hopeful that the community will rally behind the Eagles and support their junior teams as they kick off their season.
The Shepparton Eagles’ first match of the season is scheduled against Border Bears on April 21, and the club is actively recruiting new members.
