University of Washington Football Player Arrested and Charged with Rape – Played in College Football Playoff Games

University of Washington football player Tylin “Tybo” Rogers has been arrested and charged with raping two women in Seattle, with court documents revealing that he played in two College Football Playoff games for the school after at least one of the allegations was known to the university.

Rogers, an 18-year-old freshman running back from Bakersfield, California, was arrested and booked into King County Jail on Friday. He faces charges of second-degree rape and third-degree rape, with bail set at $150,000 in each case.

The University of Washington athletic department has suspended Rogers from all team activities until further notice, stating that they will continue to gather facts and cooperate with the police as needed.

According to court documents, one of the alleged victims, a Seattle Central Community College student, reported being raped in the city’s Capitol Hill neighborhood last year. The second victim, a 22-year-old University of Washington student, reported being assaulted in the University District in November 2023.

Despite being suspended from team activities in late November 2023, Rogers played in the Huskies’ two College Football Playoff games in January 2024. He recorded five carries for 19 yards in the semifinal win over the Texas Longhorns and rushed for two yards in the National Championship Game against the Michigan Wolverines.

The university’s former head coach, Kalen DeBoer, has since left for Alabama, with Jedd Fisch taking over as head coach. Fisch stated that Rogers has been suspended indefinitely since the allegations came to light and that he was not aware of the situation prior to his appointment.

The case has sparked controversy and raised questions about the handling of such serious allegations within college sports programs. As the legal process unfolds, the University of Washington and the athletic department will continue to address the situation and provide support to those affected.
