Micky Beckett Secures Third Consecutive Victory at Princess Sofia Regatta in Mallorca
Micky Beckett ruled the waves for the third year in a row at the Princess Sofia Regatta in Mallorca, showcasing his dominance in the ILCA 7 class. Despite a disqualification in the seventh race, Beckett managed to maintain his lead and secure the title, banishing the demons of last year’s World Championships.
The British sailor had a sense of déjà-vu as he recalled the disappointment of losing the title last year due to a disqualification. However, this time around, Beckett stayed calm and focused, sailing at the front of the fleet and avoiding any drama in the final race.
With his eyes set on Olympic gold in Marseille this summer, Beckett’s victory at the Princess Sofia Regatta is a confidence booster. He expressed his satisfaction with his performance, attributing his success to improved decision-making and risk management on the water.
Beckett’s main rival, Matt Wearn, has been a tough competitor in the ILCA 7 class, winning both the Olympic Test Event and the Worlds last year. However, Beckett’s consistent training and strategic improvements have paid off, as he continues to outperform his competitors.
As Beckett prepares for French Olympic Week in Hyères, he remains focused on managing his form and fitness leading up to the Games. With a strong showing at the Princess Sofia Regatta, Beckett is in a good position to peak at the right time and make a run for Olympic glory in Marseille.
