Plovdiv to Host European Rowing Championships in 2025
Plovdiv, the picturesque city in southern Bulgaria, has been chosen to host the prestigious European Rowing Championships in 2025. The decision was made by the European branch of the World Rowing Federation, beating out seven other European cities for the honor.
The President of the European Headquarters, Annamarie Phelps, congratulated Bulgaria on winning the bid and expressed her confidence in Plovdiv’s ability to provide excellent conditions for the competition. Organizing Committee Chair, Ivan Popov, highlighted that this will be the second time the city has organized a competition of this rank since 2011.
With powerhouse rowing nations such as England, Germany, France, and Italy expected to participate, the competition is set to be a thrilling showcase of talent. Popov anticipates that between 750 and 950 rowers from across Europe will descend upon Plovdiv to compete in the event.
The Organizing Committee, in partnership with Plovdiv Municipality and the Bulgarian Rowing Federation, is gearing up to ensure a seamless execution of the championship. From providing the rowing course and accommodation to offering medical care and doping control, every detail is being meticulously planned.
Plovdiv’s rowing canal, known for its fast water and ideal conditions, has seen some of the world’s best performances in the sport. With no headwinds, underwater currents, or algae to contend with, the stage is set for athletes to push their limits and strive for excellence.
