Molly Haslam Wins Tipsy Icicle Series at Leigh and Lowton Sailing Club
Molly Haslam from Delph Sailing Club in Egerton has emerged victorious in the Tipsy Icicle Series at Leigh and Lowton Sailing Club, showcasing her sailing prowess against tough competition from the North West. Not only did Molly clinch the top spot, but Rory Freestone also made a splash by finishing second in the junior fleet, displaying his skills on the water with finesse.
The competition, spanning across 10 weekends with various categories, saw a total of 160 sailors battling it out, making it the largest club dinghy winter series in the UK. Club development officer Ian Brown expressed his pride in Molly and Rory’s achievements, highlighting their dedication and hard work in the sport.
Molly, who has been sailing for two to three years, and Rory, a newcomer to racing with just a year of sailing experience, have undoubtedly made their mark in the sailing community. The collaboration between Delph Sailing Club and The Anderton Centre has played a significant role in nurturing young talent like Rory, who was provided with a boat on an exclusive use basis for a year.
In addition to Molly and Rory’s success, Finley Smith and Gordon Riddell also made their mark in the competition, finishing fourth and second in the ILCA Fleet respectively. Delph Sailing Club is set to host an open day on April 20, offering a chance for enthusiasts to enhance their skills and experience the thrill of sailing firsthand. With tea and coffee on offer, the event promises a fun-filled day for all attendees.
