Clemson Baseball Continues to Shine Under Coach Erik Bakich
In his second season as Clemson head coach, Erik Bakich has the Tigers rolling right along. For the second consecutive week, Clemson is ranked No. 2 in the nation by every major poll, including the USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll.
With a record of 28-3 overall, the Tigers are coming off a three-game sweep of Notre Dame in conference play. Only No. 1 Arkansas stands ahead of Clemson in the polls.
Looking ahead, Clemson is projected to host a Regional in the 2024 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament, according to On3 sports. The Tigers are currently dominating the ACC with a 10-2 conference record and the No. 1 RPI in the nation.
While things can always change, Clemson’s strong performance this season puts them in a good position to potentially host a Super Regional if they advance that far. The Tigers have not advanced past the Regional round of the postseason since 2010.
On the field, Clemson is batting .292 this season and averaging 8.3 runs per game. Their pitching staff boasts a collective 3.91 ERA, the third best in the ACC, with opponents batting .231 against them.
The Tigers’ 28-3 start is their best since 2002, the same year they came within one win of reaching the College World Series championship game.
Clemson will look to continue their success as they host USC Upstate at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Tuesday. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra. With their impressive performance so far, the Tigers are poised to make a deep postseason run under coach Erik Bakich.
