Brock Badgers Announce Katie Bruggeling as New Head Rowing Coach
The Brock Badgers are gearing up for an exciting new chapter as they welcome Katie Bruggeling as their new head coach. Bruggeling, who recently led the Queen’s Gaels to their first OUA Women’s Rowing Championship title since 2012, brings a wealth of experience and a winning mentality to the Badgers’ program.
With a background in athletics and administration, Bruggeling has a proven track record of success in fostering excellence in rowing programs. Her certification as a Rowing Canada Performance Coach and her recent bronze medal win at the U23 World Championships showcase her coaching prowess and dedication to the sport.
“I am thrilled and honored to join the Badgers and continue the strong legacy of Brock Rowing,” Bruggeling said. “It’s exciting to return to St. Catharines and join Brock University. I can’t wait to begin working with the student-athletes, coaches, and staff.”
Bruggeling’s impressive resume includes a Masters of Education in Athletics Administration from the University of Oklahoma and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Clemson University, where she also competed as a student-athlete and later served as an assistant coach.
Mary Rao, who served as interim head coach this past season, will remain on staff as an associate coach, forming a dynamic coaching duo with Bruggeling. Together, they made OUA rowing history as the first pair of female head coaches to win banners together.
“Our aim is to excel both in our endeavors on the water and in our personal growth, academics, and athletic pursuits,” Bruggeling said. “I’m eager to further enhance Brock’s achievements and propel us onward.”
With Bruggeling at the helm, the Badgers are poised for success both on and off the water as they strive for excellence in all aspects of their athletic endeavors.
