Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws from Monte Carlo Masters Due to Injury

In a disappointing turn of events, Carlos Alcaraz has been forced to withdraw from the Monte Carlo Masters ahead of his opening match due to a right forearm injury. The 20-year-old Spaniard, who was recently overtaken as world number two by Jannik Sinner, had been scheduled to face Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round after receiving a first-round bye.

In a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, Alcaraz expressed his disappointment, saying, “I have been working in Monte Carlo and trying to recover until the last minute from an injured pronator teres in my right arm, but it was not possible and I cannot play! I was really looking forward to playing… See you next year.”

Despite winning his first title since last summer’s Wimbledon at Indian Wells last month, Alcaraz suffered a quarter-final defeat to Grigor Dimitrov in the Miami Open. The young talent is now focused on defending his titles in Barcelona and Madrid over the next month.

Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego will replace Alcaraz in the Monte Carlo men’s singles draw. Tennis fans can catch all the action on Sky Sports Tennis, the new home for tennis in the UK and Ireland.
