K-State Women’s Rowing Dominates Creighton in Omaha Dual Race
The K-State women’s rowing team showcased their dominance on Friday as they swept all their races against Creighton in Omaha, Neb. The team’s head coach, Patrick Sweeney, praised the athletes for their focus and adaptability in the face of schedule changes and challenging weather conditions.
The races kicked off with the fours, where both the 1v4+ and the 2v4+ boats competed. The 1v4+ boat, led by coxswain Kiersten Schmalz, emerged victorious with a time of 7:59.4. The 2v4+ boat also put up a strong performance, finishing second behind their teammates.
In the 2v8+ race, K-State secured another win, finishing nearly 30 seconds ahead of Creighton. The 1v8+ boat continued the winning streak, crossing the finish line first with a time of 7:26.8. The 3v8+ boat made a statement with a commanding victory, finishing over a minute ahead of Creighton.
Sophomore Emma Johnson reflected on the team’s performance, highlighting their ability to adapt to adverse conditions and execute their races effectively. The athletes credited their off-season training and recent water time for their success on race day.
Looking ahead, the team is gearing up to compete in a double duel against Minnesota and Iowa in Kansas City. The athletes are excited to face new opponents and continue building on their progress throughout the season.
