AIS Dominates Men’s Junior National Championship at 39th National Rowing Championship
Asian International School (AIS) emerged as the dominant force in the world of rowing at the 39th National Rowing Championship, showcasing their prowess and talent on the water. Led by co-captains Shaylon Gunaratna and Yusuf Rizmeer, the AIS team outperformed all their competitors to claim victory in the Men’s Junior National Championship.
The AIS crew put on a spectacular display of skill and determination, securing an impressive total of 10 gold medals, six silver medals, and two bronze medals. Their captain, Shaylon Gunaratna, also added to their success by claiming the prestigious Schoolboy Sculler Shield, solidifying his status as a top rower in the country.
The AIS men’s junior crew consisted of some of the best rowers in Sri Lanka, including members from the National Rowing Squad, the National Youth Development Programme, and the National Development Squad. With a lineup of talented individuals such as Rovinya Wijesekera, Shivendra Goonewardene, and Venuk Panduwawala, the AIS team proved to be a formidable force on the water.
Notable victories for the AIS team included gold medals in various categories such as the Under 14 Boys Single Scull, Under 16 Boys Quadruple Scull, and Under 18 Boys Double Scull. The team’s success was a testament to their hard work, dedication, and the expert coaching of Sanjeewa Guruge.
