Exciting Renovations Underway at the Manuel Gómez Athletics Track in Maturín Sports Center!

The athletics track at the Sports Center in Monagas is undergoing a major transformation, much to the delight of local athletes. The 400-meter track, named the “Manuel Gómez” track, is currently being reconditioned by a dedicated team from the Government of Monagas.

Governor Ernest Luna, along with Secretary of Infrastructure Guillermo Sánchez, recently inspected the progress of the civil engineering work being done on the track. Heavy machinery has been brought in to remove the deteriorated material from the track, which has been in use for over 42 years.

Not only is the track being revamped, but the surrounding areas including stands, recreation spaces, and bathrooms will also be renovated. Governor Luna expressed his excitement for the improvements, stating that new opportunities are opening up for young athletes in the region.

The decision to prioritize the refurbishment of the athletics track was made after President Nicolás Maduro’s visit to the area in March. The track is a key component of the larger project to revitalize the Maturín Sports Center, which serves as a hub for various sports events in the region.

Once completed, the track will be suitable for a wide range of athletic competitions including sprint races, long distance running, hurdles, relays, and field events like pole vault and long jump. The ongoing work signifies a commitment to providing top-notch facilities for athletes in Monagas.

In addition to the track renovations, other sports facilities in the area have also been upgraded, showcasing the government’s dedication to promoting sports and fitness in the region.
