Detroit Lakes Boys Hockey Team Banquet Honors Players and Awards
The Detroit Lakes boys hockey team celebrated the end of their season with a banquet at La Barista in downtown Detroit Lakes on April 7. The players were recognized for their hard work and dedication throughout the season, receiving various team, Section 8A, and Mid-State Conference honors.
Despite finishing the season with a 12-14-1 overall record, the Lakers had a strong showing in the Mid-State Conference with a perfect 4-0 record. Unfortunately, their season came to an end with a tough 7-1 loss to East Grand Forks in the Section 8A semifinals.
Senior Dalton Songstad was a standout player for the Lakers, earning an All-Section 8A award at the banquet. Additionally, Kale Witt, Easton Kennedy, and Cole Deraney received Mid-State All-Conference honors, with Songstad being the sole recipient of the All-Section 8A award.
One of the most prestigious awards of the night, the Derick Brehm Memorial Award, was presented to Kale Witt. This award is given to the player who best exemplifies leadership, character, coachability, hard work, toughness, and dedication to the team.
Senior Tyler Ostlie was honored with the Hobey Baker Award, which recognizes high school hockey players who embody the values of character, integrity, commitment, teamwork, community leadership, and outstanding sportsmanship.
Overall, the banquet was a night of celebration and recognition for the Detroit Lakes boys hockey team. As they look towards the future, the Lakers will undoubtedly carry the lessons learned and the memories made during the season with them.
