Ladies College Emerges as Champions in Women’s Junior Championship at 39th Sri Lanka National Rowing Championship
The Ladies College crew made a triumphant return to the Sri Lanka National Rowing Championship, emerging as the champions in the Women’s Junior Championship. Their stellar performance at the 39th edition of the prestigious event held at the Diyawanna Rowing Centre in Battaramulla showcased their talent and determination.
Last year, Ladies College had to share the championship title with Musaeus College and Bishop’s College. However, this year, they left no room for doubt as they dominated the competition, securing six gold medals, two silver medals, and four bronze medals, totaling an impressive 12 medals. Competing against 10 other top rowing schools, the Ladies College crew displayed exceptional skill and teamwork throughout the four-day championship.
Led by co-captains Hayaa Hassen and Letara Munipura, the 24-member crew played a pivotal role in their success. Under the guidance of Head Coach Sharen Kannangara and Assistant Coach Davina de Kauwe, the team showcased their dedication and passion for the sport. Captains Hayaa and Letara expressed their joy at the victory, emphasizing the hard work and commitment of their fellow crew members.
The girls from Flower Road excelled in various age categories, winning gold, silver, and bronze medals across the board. Their outstanding performance included two gold medals in the Under-14 category, two gold medals and two silver medals in the Under-16 category, and two gold medals and two bronze medals in the Under-18 category. The support and guidance of Principal Deepika Dassenaike, Vice Principal Ranmalee Balasooriya, and other key figures were instrumental in the team’s success.
Overall, the Ladies College crew’s impressive display of skill and teamwork has solidified their position as champions in the Women’s Junior Championship, setting the stage for future success in the world of rowing.
