Former NFL Safety Donte Whitner Compares Patrick Mahomes to Michael Jordan

Former NFL safety Donte Whitner has heaped praise on Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, likening him to basketball legend Michael Jordan. Whitner made the comparison during an appearance on Monday’s Up & Adams show, where he discussed the Chiefs’ victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.

Whitner highlighted Mahomes’ ability to single-handedly carry his team, much like Jordan did during his dominant years in the NBA. The ex-NFL player emphasized the mental aspect of facing Mahomes, noting that teams need to be at their best in every position to stand a chance against the two-time MVP.

“Patrick Mahomes is showing us time and time again that on the grandest stage, when the lights are the brightest, he’s going to do anything that he has to do to put his team on his back,” Whitner said. “Right now, he’s the Michael Jordan of football because he can do all of those different things.”

Mahomes led the Chiefs to a comeback victory over the 49ers in the Super Bowl, showcasing his ability to make clutch plays when it matters most. The quarterback’s performance earned him his third Super Bowl MVP trophy, solidifying his status as one of the top players in the league.

Looking ahead, the Chiefs offense could be even more potent next season with the addition of wide receiver Marquise Brown. The former Ravens and Cardinals player signed a one-year deal with Kansas City, bringing a deep threat element to the team’s roster.

With Mahomes at the helm and a talented supporting cast around him, the Chiefs will be aiming to make history by becoming the first team to win a Super Bowl three-peat in 2024. As Whitner aptly put it, “You’re never out of the game when you have Patrick Mahomes.”
