Florida Gymnastics Team Shines in Gainesville Regional, Advances to NCAA Championships

The Florida gymnastics team put on a show-stopping performance at the Gainesville Regional, securing a season-high score of 198.325 to advance to the NCAA Championships in Fort Worth, Texas. This impressive feat marks the Gators’ 40th appearance in the finals in the event’s 42-year history.

Freshman standout Anya Pilgrim and senior Ellie Lazzari stole the spotlight, both tying for the all-around title with impressive scores of 39.65. They were closely followed by teammates Victoria Nguyen and Leanne Wong, who scored 39.60 each.

Coach Jenny Rowland expressed her pride in the team’s performance, likening it to an intrasquad meet. The Gators will need to bring their A-game to the NCAA Championships after finishing as runners-up to Oklahoma in the past two years.

With a total score of 197.575, the No. 5 Utah team also advanced from the tough competition at the regional event. The Gators will now set their sights on taking down the reigning champions, the top-ranked Sooners, who lead the nation with an average score of 198.360.

Pilgrim’s rapid rise in her first season at Florida has been a sight to behold, while Lazzari’s stellar performance harkened back to her standout freshman year. Wong continued to prove her reliability as a top performer, and Nguyen’s transition to an all-around competitor has bolstered the team’s strength.

The Gators showcased their talent across all apparatus, with impressive scores on beam, vault, uneven bars, and floor exercise. The team’s unity and composure were evident as they delivered a flawless performance, leaving everything on the floor.
