Former UVa and NFL Star Heath Miller Named Head Football Coach at St. Anne’s-Belfield

Heath Miller, a former standout tight end at the University of Virginia and two-time Super Bowl champion with the Pittsburgh Steelers, is making a return to the football field as the new head coach at St. Anne’s-Belfield in Charlottesville.

Miller, who had a stellar career at UVa from 2001 to 2004, where he set multiple tight end records and earned All-American honors, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his new coaching role. After his college career, Miller went on to have a successful 11-year career in the NFL, where he became the all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns by a tight end for the Steelers.

Now, Miller is ready to pass on his expertise to the next generation of football players at St. Anne’s-Belfield. With his deep roots in the Charlottesville community, where he and his family reside, Miller is excited to take on this new challenge and help mold young athletes on and off the field.

The Saints football program is coming off a successful season under outgoing head coach Joe Sandoe, who led the team to a 6-3 record and had 11 players named to the all-state team. With Miller at the helm for the 2024 season, there is a sense of optimism and excitement surrounding the program.

STAB’s Head of School, Autumn A. Graves, expressed her enthusiasm for having Miller lead the football program, highlighting his impressive playing career and the valuable lessons he can impart to the student-athletes. Director of Athletics Seth Kushkin also praised Miller’s passion and football experience, while thanking Sandoe for his contributions to the program.

As Miller embarks on this new chapter in his football career, the St. Anne’s-Belfield community is eager to see the impact he will have on the team and the continued success of the program under his leadership.
