PCB Chairman Confirms Usman Khan’s Eligibility for Pakistan’s T20I Series Against New Zealand

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has confirmed that Usman Khan remains eligible for selection in Pakistan’s national squad for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand, despite facing a five-year ban from the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB). Naqvi’s announcement comes as the team prepares for the series, which is set to kick off on April 18 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Usman Khan recently participated in a fitness camp organized by trainers from the Pakistan Army, showcasing his commitment to the team despite the ban imposed by the ECB. The ban was a result of Usman’s alleged misrepresentation and failure to meet eligibility criteria while seeking opportunities elsewhere.

Despite the ban, Naqvi reiterated Usman’s eligibility for the national squad, stating, “Usman Khan is eligible for Pakistan and he will play.” This confirmation provides clarity on Usman’s status and allows him to continue representing his country in the upcoming series against New Zealand.

In addition to addressing Usman’s eligibility, Naqvi also discussed the ongoing efforts to appoint a head coach for the national team following Grant Bradburn’s departure post-World Cup 2023. Potential candidates for the coaching role include former New Zealand cricketer Luke Ronchi and ex-Australia head coach Justin Langer.

The T20I series between Pakistan and New Zealand is highly anticipated, with matches scheduled at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. The series promises to be a thrilling contest between two competitive teams, with Usman Khan’s participation adding an extra layer of intrigue to the upcoming matches. Cricket fans can look forward to an exciting series as Pakistan gears up to take on New Zealand in the T20 format.
