WTAMU Buffs Sweep Oklahoma Christian in Lone Star Conference Action
The West Texas A&M Buffs continued their dominant run in Lone Star Conference action with a four-game sweep of Oklahoma Christian over the weekend at Wilder Park. The No. 4-ranked Buffs extended their win streak to six games and improved their overall record to an impressive 29-9.
The Buffs showcased their offensive firepower in the series, belting a total of 10 home runs on Thursday alone, with six of them coming in the nightcap of a doubleheader. In total, WTAMU collected 35 hits in both games on Thursday, with 22 of them going for extra bases.
Slugger Kory Schmidt had a career day at the plate, going 6-for-11 with three home runs and 11 RBIs in the series. Teammate Rodric Black also had a standout performance, going 5-for-9 with three homers and seven RBIs over the two wins.
First baseman Dylan Fesperman continued his impressive hitting streak, extending it to 28 games with a 3-for-7 performance over the weekend. In Friday’s doubleheader sweep, Fesperman added four RBIs to his season total.
The Buffs’ offensive onslaught continued on Friday, as they scored a total of 22 runs in the doubleheader sweep. Third baseman Seth Ochoa and Schmidt were key contributors in the victories, driving in crucial runs to secure the wins.
With the sweep, WTAMU now sits atop the LSC standings with a 28-8 conference record. The Buffs will look to carry their momentum into their upcoming four-game series on the road against St. Mary’s.
