Texas Rowing Dominates San Diego Crew Classic with Three Grand Final Wins

SAN DIEGO – The No. 4 Texas Rowing team showcased their dominance at the San Diego Crew Classic over the weekend, securing three grand final wins and a runner-up finish in another event. Competing against some of the top programs in the nation, including Pac-12 powerhouses like No. 3 Washington and No. 7 California, the Longhorns proved their strength on the water.

Head coach Dave O’Neill expressed his pride in the team’s performance, stating, “It was a great day here in San Diego. All four crews raced really hard, and I’m really proud of the team.” The Longhorns started the finals session strong with a convincing victory in the Jessop-Whittier Cup Invitational by the I Eight, finishing with a time of 6:23.272 and winning by open water over California.

The Texas Four continued the winning streak with a third-straight title in the Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup, securing another open-water victory with a time of 7:28.046. The Texas II Eight faced a challenge early on in the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy but ultimately emerged victorious with a time of 6:46.080.

In the Open Eight event, Texas closed out the competition with a second-place finish in the Carley Copley Cup, just behind California. O’Neill emphasized the team’s need to stay focused and prepared for their upcoming race against No. 9 Michigan.

The Longhorns’ impressive performances at the San Diego Crew Classic set the stage for an exciting season ahead. With a strong lineup and a winning mentality, Texas Rowing is poised to continue their success in the weeks to come.
