Hardik Pandya addresses fitness concerns and reflects on Mumbai Indians’ maiden win in IPL 2024
In a thrilling encounter at the Wankhede stadium, Mumbai Indians’ skipper Hardik Pandya led his team to a resounding 29-run victory over Delhi Capitals in their first win of the Indian Premier League 2024 season. Pandya, who had been under scrutiny for not bowling in the match, reassured fans of his fitness during the post-match presentation.
“I am fine. I’ll be bowling at the right time, we had everything covered today so did not have to roll my arms over,” Pandya stated, putting an end to any doubts about his readiness to contribute with the ball. The victory was a result of a stellar powerplay performance by the opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, who set the tone with a blistering 79-run partnership.
Pandya also praised Romario Shepherd for his explosive knock in the final over, where he smashed 32 runs off Anrich Nortje to seal the win for Mumbai Indians. “That was some hitting na. He won us the game. Difference was Romario v Delhi Capitals. I like him. Always has a smile on his face, doesn’t run away,” Pandya commended Shepherd for his match-winning contribution.
After three consecutive defeats in the ongoing season, Pandya highlighted the team’s resilience and unity in bouncing back with a crucial victory. “There’s a lot of love and care going around in the change room. Belief and backing each other is the attitude out there. Everyone believed we need just one win,” Pandya emphasized the importance of belief and teamwork in turning their season around.
With this much-needed win under their belt, Mumbai Indians will look to build on the momentum and continue their winning streak in the IPL 2024 season.
