West Limerick Athletes Shine at Ballybunion Races and Volunteer at CampAbilities

West Limerick athletes showcased their talent at the recent Ballybunion 5k/10K and Half Marathon, with impressive performances across the board. Grace O’Donnell finished 6th overall and 2nd woman in the 5K, while Karol Downey and Mary Ita O’Connor put in strong showings in the 10K. Kieran Karr, Kevin Kelly, and Tara Carr also represented well in the Half Marathon, with Helen Meehan running the 10K for An Bru.

In addition to their athletic achievements, members of Camp Dooneen AC volunteered at CampAbilities, a sports camp for 10-14 year olds with visual impairments. Led by Rosemary Ryan, the club athletes served as ambassadors for the sport and gained valuable insights into disability sport.

Looking ahead, the National Juvenile Indoor Championships in Athlone will feature several Limerick athletes vying for success. The Michal Rejmer 10 Mile hosted by Dooneen AC and the Kilmallock AC 4 Mile Road race are also upcoming events to watch out for.

For those participating in evening runs, London Marathon winner Catherina McKiernan offers some valuable training tips. She suggests getting extra rest before evening runs by going to bed earlier or taking a short nap to recharge the body.

With a busy schedule of events and training tips from top athletes, the West Limerick sports scene is buzzing with excitement and potential for success. Stay tuned for more updates on these talented athletes and their upcoming competitions.
