University of Lynchburg Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Ferrum, Wins Game One 14-1 and Loses Game Two 3-4
The University of Lynchburg baseball team had a rollercoaster of a day as they split a doubleheader with Ferrum on the road this past Saturday. The Hornets dominated game one with a resounding 14-1 victory, but fell short in game two with a close 3-4 loss.
In the first game, Lynchburg showcased their offensive prowess by scoring seven unanswered runs through the 5th inning. Quinn Madden was a standout player, driving in two runs with a crucial single in the first inning. Pitcher Wesley Arrington put on a stellar performance, striking out seven batters and earning his third win of the season.
The Hornets continued their offensive onslaught with Sean Pokorak’s two-RBI homer in the 8th inning, securing the win with a final score of 14-1. Pokorak had an outstanding game, recording three hits, three RBI, and three runs.
Game two saw Lynchburg take an early lead with a three-run homer from Quinn Madden, but Ferrum fought back to secure a 4-3 victory. Despite the loss, the Hornets put up a strong fight with pitcher Nick Mattfield allowing only two earned runs through six innings.
With this split, Lynchburg’s record stands at 18-9 overall and 8-5 in the ODAC. The team is currently ranked 17th in the d3baseball.com poll and will look to bounce back as they host Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
