Sam Northeast Hits Record-Breaking 335 Not Out Against Middlesex in Vitality County Championship
Sam Northeast made headlines in the cricket world with his incredible performance against Middlesex in the Vitality County Championship Division Two. The Glamorgan captain smashed an unbeaten 335 not out, surpassing Graham Gooch’s 333 for England against India in 1990, to record the highest first-class innings at Lord’s.
Northeast’s remarkable innings was supported by a fantastic partnership with Colin Ingram, who scored an unbeaten 132. The duo put on a fourth-wicket stand of 299 runs before Glamorgan declared on a massive total of 620-3. This dominant display put Middlesex on the back foot, trailing by 482 runs with nine wickets in hand at the end of day two.
In other matches, Essex bowler Sam Cook shone in Division One, claiming a hat-trick as his team took a 24-run lead over Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge. Meanwhile, Cameron Steel’s five-wicket haul helped bowl out Lancashire for 202 against Surrey, with Australian spinner Nathan Lyon making his debut for the hosts.
The action-packed day also saw Kent being dismissed for 284 against Somerset, while Warwickshire trailed Worcestershire by 68 runs with five wickets remaining at Edgbaston. In Division Two, Northamptonshire’s Luke Proctor’s 92 guided his team to 292-7 against Sussex, and Ben Mike’s return to Leicestershire saw him score 90 against Yorkshire.
Unfortunately, wet weather disrupted play in Durham’s match against Hampshire and Derbyshire’s clash with Gloucestershire. Cricket fans can look forward to the upcoming 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and England’s Test summer, starting against the West Indies in July. Stay tuned for more thrilling cricket action!
