The Phoenix Suns dominated the Minnesota Timberwolves in a 97-87 victory on Friday night, thanks to a strong defensive effort and balanced scoring from their starters. Grayson Allen led the way with 23 points, while Kevin Durant added 22 points to secure the win for the Suns.
The Suns got off to a hot start, racing to a 15-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Bradley Beal chipped in with 14 points, Devin Booker had 13 points and 13 assists, and Jusuf Nurkic played through injury to contribute 11 points, 15 rebounds, and six assists.
Despite struggling to score 100 points for only the fourth time this season, the Suns’ defensive effort was key in securing the win. All five starters scored in the 15-0 run, showcasing their offensive prowess as well.
Minnesota struggled offensively, with Anthony Edwards only managing 17 points on 6-of-19 shooting. The Timberwolves had 19 turnovers, which the Suns capitalized on to score 24 points.
Suns coach Frank Vogel praised his team’s defensive performance, emphasizing the importance of continued improvement on that end of the floor. With the win, the Suns improved to 46-31 and held onto sixth place in the Western Conference standings.
Both teams have five games remaining in the regular season, with a rematch scheduled for April 14 in Minneapolis. The Timberwolves, who are tied with Denver for the best record in the West at 53-24, will be looking to bounce back from this loss as they aim to secure a top seed in the playoffs.
