Struggles on the Mound Continue for Hawaii Baseball Team in Big West Play
The Hawaii baseball team continues to struggle with pitching in Big West play, as they dropped their fifth straight conference game to UC Davis on Friday.
Starter Alex Giroux only lasted two innings, and the bullpen couldn’t contain the Aggies’ offense, giving up runs in a back-and-forth 9-5 loss. This defeat adds to a pattern of UH starters failing to go deep into games in conference play.
Since Giroux’s impressive performance in the Big West opener, no UH starter has made it past 4 1/3 innings in a conference game. The lack of consistency on the mound has been a major factor in the team’s recent struggles.
Despite some offensive highlights, including Matthew Miura’s two-run double and a strong performance from Austin Machado, the Rainbow Warriors couldn’t keep up with UC Davis in the late innings. The Aggies scored four runs in the seventh to secure the win.
The ‘Bows will look to bounce back in the next game of the series on Saturday morning. With their conference record slipping, Hawaii will need to find a way to shore up their pitching staff and get back on track in Big West play.
