UCLA Gymnastics Season Ends with Third-Place Finish at NCAA Regional Second Round
Despite a strong start, the UCLA gymnastics team saw their season come to an end after finishing third at the NCAA Regional Second Round in Berkeley on Friday. The Bruins scored a 197.050, falling behind first-place Denver and second-place Arizona State, both of which advanced to the Regional Final.
The Bruins started off strong with a 49.575 on floor exercise in the first rotation, led by impressive performances from Brooklyn Moors, Nya Reed, and Chae Campbell. However, their lead began to diminish as they struggled on the vault and uneven bars, ultimately dropping to second place after the bars rotation.
In the final rotation, UCLA faced some challenges with uncharacteristic wobbles, but still managed to put up some strong performances. Campbell and Ciena Alipio delivered crucial routines, but it wasn’t enough to hold off ASU and Denver, who both excelled on floor exercise.
Despite the disappointing finish, UCLA will be waiting to see if any individuals qualify for the NCAA Championships based on their performances at the Regional Second Round.
Overall, it was a bittersweet end to the season for the Bruins, who showed flashes of brilliance but ultimately fell short of advancing to the next round. The team will now turn their focus to the offseason as they prepare for the 2025 season.
