Texas Rowing Set to Compete at San Diego Crew Classic
The Texas Rowing team is gearing up for an exciting start to their season as they head west to compete in the prestigious San Diego Crew Classic on April 6-7. The Longhorns will be racing on the 2,000-meter course at Fiesta Bay-Crown Point Shores of Mission Bay Park in San Diego, California, against some tough competition.
Among the seven boats invited to race for the Collegiate Varsity Jessop-Whittier Cup, Texas’ First Eight will be facing off against powerhouse teams such as No. 3 Washington and No. 7 California. The Second Eight and Four will also be competing for their respective trophies, while a Third Eight boat will be racing in the Women’s Open 8+ Carley Copley Cup.
Last year, the Longhorns dominated the competition, sweeping through the heats and finals in each event. With a strong lineup that includes returning All-Americans Anna Jensen and Etta Carpender, as well as several other talented rowers, Texas is poised for success once again.
Jensen and Nitsch have already been recognized for their talent, being named to the College Rowing Coaches Association Athletes to Watch list. Jensen, a two-time first-team All-American, has a successful track record both on the collegiate level and internationally, while Nitsch has proven herself as a three-time Big 12 Champion.
In the latest Pocock CRCA Coaches Poll, Texas holds steady at the No. 4 spot, with defending national champion Stanford leading the rankings. With a championship pedigree that includes top-eight finishes in the last eight NCAA Championship Regattas, the Longhorns are looking to add to their impressive resume this season.
As the eight-time defending Big 12 Conference Champions, Texas is ready to showcase their talent and determination at the San Diego Crew Classic and beyond. Stay tuned for thrilling races and impressive performances from the Longhorns as they kick off their season in style.
