Regis Jesuit Captures Class 5A Ice Hockey Championship: All-Aurora Team Announced
Regis Jesuit Claims Class 5A Ice Hockey Championship
In a thrilling showdown at Magness Arena, the Regis Jesuit ice hockey team emerged victorious over rival Valor Christian with a 3-1 win in the Class 5A final. This victory marked the seventh state championship for Regis Jesuit, solidifying their place as one of the top teams in Colorado history.
After a two-year drought, the Raiders were determined to reclaim their title, and they did so with a stellar performance on the ice. Led by freshman goaltender Easton Sparks, the team rallied around his exceptional play throughout the postseason. Sparks proved to be a game-changer, making crucial saves and maintaining a remarkable .940 save percentage in the championship game.
Joining Sparks on the All-Aurora Ice Hockey Team are standout players Ian Beck, Parker Brinner, and Dhilan Paranjape. Beck and Brinner both made significant contributions to the team’s success, with Beck scoring a crucial goal in the championship game and Brinner showcasing his skills as a top scorer for the Raiders.
On the defensive end, Paranjape provided a steady presence in front of Sparks, helping to limit the opposition’s scoring opportunities. His leadership and versatility on the ice were instrumental in Regis Jesuit’s defensive efforts throughout the season.
While Regis Jesuit claimed the championship, the Cherry Creek co-op team also had a strong showing, with players Dominic Suchkov and William O’Grady earning spots on the All-Aurora first team. Suchkov’s clutch goal in the quarterfinals and O’Grady’s physical presence on defense were key factors in the team’s success.
Overall, the winter prep sports season was highlighted by Regis Jesuit’s impressive championship win, showcasing the talent and determination of Aurora area teams on the ice. Congratulations to all the players and teams who competed at a high level throughout the season.
